The full day tour of Argolis is a trip to some of the most important archaeological sites of Greece, in the most characteristic Greek-Mediterranean scenery of Peloponnese. Leaving Loutraki behind and driving through the hills of Corinth, among thousands of olive trees and vineyards, we will arrive at the prefecture of Argolis where we’ll visit the archaeological site of Mycenae. Mycenae, ‘Rich in Gold’, was the kingdom of mythical Agamemnon, who dominated the Aegean sea after the distraction of the Minoan empire. It’s elevated position and it’s huge Cyclopean walls, offered protection from surprise attacks by pirates and enemies.

After concluding our visit to Mycenae we’ll drive through the plain of Argos among endless farms of orange trees and forty minutes later we’ll arrive to the picturesque town of Nafplion, first capital of the Greek state in the early 1830s. The old town is lovely, with old mansions and paved paths. the whole town gives a neoclassical vibe that attracts all visitors. Lunch at a traditional tavern.

From Nafplion, driving through the winding roads of Argolis, we are going to visit Epidaurus, famous for it’s ancient theater. The view, aesthetics and acoustics of the theater are breathtaking. It’s still in use today and hosts carefully selected theatrical plays, concerts, and Festivals during the summer. For an actor to perform at the Theater of Epidaurus is considered the greatest honor and the ultimate acknowledgement of his or her talent, if he wins over the tough audience. Early in the afternoon back to Loutraki.

Departure from Loutraki early in the morning via the national highway to Delphi, passing through the towns of Thebes, Levadia (quick stop) and Arachova. Delphi is known in ancient times as the navel of the world.

Pass the Castalia Spring, visit at the archaeological site the Temple of Apollo and the Museum of Delphi, with it’s spectacular finds including the bronze Charioteer, the Naxian Sphinx, the statue of Antinoos. Have lunch in the modern village of Delphi, before going back to Loutraki by the same route.

Drive on the highway, pass by Patra town and arrive in Olympia the birthplace of the Olympic Games. There is the Temple of Zeus which in antiquity was housing one of the 7 wonders of the Ancient world, the gold and ivory statue of Zeus, which Phedias had created. Then see the temple oh Hera, the shrine of Pelops (one of the oldest in the sanctuary), the council house where the athletes took the Olympic bath, the treasury houses, the Gymnasium and the Palaestra where they used to exercise for a month prior to the games and the Phillipeion. Finally come to the Stadium, where the marble starting blocks are still in position.

We will also visit the Archaelogical Museum only a short-walk from the Olympia site itself. There you will find a wonderful collection of Greek sculptures, as well as treasure that have been unearthed over a century of excavations.

KALAVRYTA AND THE CAVE OF THE LAKES | every Wednesday | Price 60 Euro | from 08.00 till 18.00

The most beautiful train trip in Balkan. We depart in the morning from Loutraki and after one hour we will be in Diakopto where from we are going to take the cog railway (odontotos) to Kalavryta.

Cog railway (Odontotos) which links Kalavrita with diakopto going through Vouraikos Canyon, is one of the most beautiful natural sights in Greece. It has been mentioned as the most beautiful train trip in Balkans. The journey takes 1 hour.

Kalavryta is a charming small town in North Peloponnese with a plenty of historical and religious sights. Visit the monastery of Mega Spileo built on the wild and steep side of a 120 meter high rocky hill there is a unique view from the monastery’s balcony and the famous Monastery Agia Lavra described as the symbolic birth-place of modern Greece. It is famously linked with the Greek war of Independence, since it was there that the call ‘Eleftheria i Thanatos‘ was first heard on 17 March 1821, launching the revolution against the Ottoman Empire.

Finally, visit the unique ‘Lake of the Caves’ a rare creation of nature. Apart from its Labyrinth of corridors, its mysterious galleries and its strange stalactite formations, the ‘Cave of the lakes’ has something exclusively unique that does not exist in other well known caves. Late in the afternoon return to Loutraki.
